Document Writing

Well I have a bunch of stuff that needs to be accomplished for GSkirm, and not all of them are as daunting as creating server side scripts for managing the database for storing game information. This is a key component of multiplayer and something I definitely want to do for v1.0 of GSkirm, as it was my number one request previously. I don’t know if I will end up doing real-time multiplayer for 1.0, but I have my hopes. At the very least, I want functional multiplayer in, which would mean each turn a player would login with the game ID and the user ID. The niceties of ajax will come in afterwards.

Well, the real point of this entry is to talk about the documentation. I have a partially written rules sheet done. I have an idea with how I’ll be doing the tutorial. The rules sheet is the most important thing from my viewpoint. I know it’ll be adjusted as I code things, but that’ll be the biggest sign to me that this is a real game. The tutorial is just as important but needs a fully playable code base to be structured from. My current idea is to break the tutorial down into chapters. Allowing for the currently working structures of the game can be coded up, and it’ll be expansible. I have to review my code but there are only a few last things that I need that are actually functional before that’s complete. Alright, gotta watch Who Wants to be a Superhero

Weak..

Well, after a bit over a week of claiming I was gonna work on GSkirm more, not too much work has been done. Why you ask? Well I did accomplish a lot that first weekend getting a lot of overhead stuff done. I was able to get my sand box portion back to an actual working condition, which yknow.. helps. The next two things I want to get accomplished are a rules write up and tutorial section. While it won’t get any additional content into the system. And both will need to be updated as more features get added. I kinda think it would be good to have an actual rulesheet. And a tutorial actually explaining one+ round of play.

So I didn’t manage to get any work done this past weekend cause our friend Greg finally moved out of his parents house and we threw him a nice party at his new place. I still have a few friends still stuck at their old folks places, so hopefully I can convince them to get out on their own. This coming weekend I’m going to my parents Poconos house for the weekend, so it seems like I won’t be getting too much done this weekend. Maybe I’ll get a bit done this weekend? Don’t hold your breath.

Mario Strikers Charged

Alright, so as much good progress I made on the latest versions of Global Skirmish, and actually setting up a blog and source control like I had been planning on doing for a while. I may have just lost a step. I just purchased Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii, and the game is definitely as much and probably a bit more fun than it’s predecessor. While the first one was fairly balanced, there was a few moves i could do to score more or less at will. Now, with Mario strikers there is a controlled chaos (and sometimes a bit of a wild chaos) throughout the game.

The single player comes in two forms. There’s a challenge mode, which places you in a situation with a score and you need to do something in the amount of time they give. It’s nice that they have this available since sometimes I dont feel like playing for very long. There’s also the tournament mode where you play X qualifying games and then a playoff system to win a championship. Now I’m not positive, but it seems like if you lose in the playoffs you have to redo all your qualifying games, which can get real annoying real fast.

We tried to get the wifi to work without much luck. I figure the tubes are a bit clogged for the first Wii game to be Wifi compatible. I just wish we didn’t need friend codes. Now that i’m done telling you how good the game is you should go get it? Right? Well, I’m gonna crash but I’m sure i’ll play for an hour for the next week or two. But we’ll see how that goes. One of the guys at my work recently passed my gamerscore, so I may need to put a few hours into finding a game with some easy points to get back ahead. Alright, enough about video games for now yea?

Night all
